All visitors want to visit this temple once during the trip to Tien Giang (My Tho). This temple is the biggest one in Tien Giang which is only 5km from My Tho so it is very convenient for the trip. The temple is on Nguyen Trung Truc street in My An, My Phong and offers a unique architecture and art. Vinh Trang temple was built in the 19th century and is the harmonious mix of Asian and European architecture.
Although, Vinh Trang’s architecture is affected by architectures of other countries, but it still keep the main features of Vietnamese through Buddhist statues.

4. Cai Be floating market
The market is located on Tan Phong island – the border of 3 provinces including Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre. I have experienced the work of a seller here – to drive the boat full of goods going through other boats and trade with buyers.

Unlike buying goods in a supermarket, here, I had to bargain with buyers to make profits as much as possible. Besides, I could exchange my goods for anything I wanted from other sellers.

5. Cai Be fruit garden
Due to the orchards of various well-known fruits such as sweet mango, grapefruit, longan, king orange, and plum, the garden is considered as the biggest fruit garden in the Mekong River Delta. As it attracts a huge number of visitors, it becomes a tourism destination as well.

Coming to the garden, beside admiring luxuriant fruit trees, I tried the fresh fruits right inside the orchard. The king orange surprised me the most. My favorite is orange, but I have never tried big oranges with unexpected flavor and a lot of juice like that. Compared to other fruit gardens in the Southwest, Cai Be has the most abundant fruits all year round, so no matter when you visit, you can try different fruits.

WHAT TO EAT IN MY THO?
Despite the Mekong Delta’s agricultural and aquatic bounty, My Tho is not exactly a gastronomic paradise. You’ll have to be a food explorer, keeping eyes peeled for Mekong Delta specialities.
1. My Tho Noodle Soup (Hu Tieu My Tho)
Derived from a conventional Chinese noodle soup, Hu Tieu My Tho (or My Tho noodle soup) has undergone many changes to be able to suit the appetite of My Tho people. Due to this changing process, the dish now has become an outstanding culinary delight in Vietnamese cuisine. Looking at the bowl of My Tho soup, you certainly realize some familiar ingredients, such as dried shrimp, sliced barbecue pork, herbs, bean sprouts, meat and some vegetables. Then, ever wonder if there is anything special in this dish? It is true that the most stunning feature making it famous in the north and south of Vietnam is exactly broth. Maybe, how to make the sweet and surprising fragrant broth is the special recipe belonging to My Tho people. The dish is often enjoyed with lemon, soya sauce, and chili. It is truly what to eat in My Tho for a Mekong Delta tour.
2. Tamarind Broth with Rice Noodle (Bun Goi Ga or Bun Goi Da)
It’s probably said that the specialty you should not ignore in your Mekong Delta tour is Bun Goi Ga (Tamarind Broth with Rice Noodle). Even with Vietnamese, the dish’s name is quite strange; they just know that it is primarily a bowl of rice noodle with tamarind broth and some add-ons. The key components of the dish are fish sauce and tamarind water, which creates the perfect yet nutty flavor anyone can’t resist. It’s exactly the sourness, sweetness, and unique saltiness harmoniously combined in the recipe. Along with the perfect stock and tender noddle, the other ingredients like seafood, herbs, and meat also contributes to the success of the enthralling dish.
3. Fried Prawn Cake (Cake Cong or Banh Cong)
Fried Prawn Cake should be included in what to eat in My Tho when you join a Mekong Delta tour. The dish originally originates from Soc Trang province, and then has spread out on many different areas of Mekong Delta. This crunchy fried shrimp cake is savored with assorted fresh herbs, lettuce, sweet and sour fish sauce and supposed to be ideal for rainy days. Nothing is better than sitting in a foot stall and enjoying a plate of some fried prawn cakes soaked in fish sauce while it is raining outside. An alternative in how to eat the dish is to combine it with Vietnamese Steamed Rice Pancake Rolls. How fantastic!
4. Star Apples in Lo Ren
Star apples in Lo Ren, Vinh Kim is a kind of indispensable fruit in your list of what to eat in My Tho in your Mekong Delta tour. Thanks to the delight sweetness in its flavor, it becomes the favorite fruit of both local people and inbound and outbound tourists.
Normally in order to enjoy a fresh star apple, we have to cut it into two parts and use a spoon to take the core out, but you also can peel its skin and take the core to make the juice. Enjoy it and feel the phenomenal flavor of this beautiful fruit by all senses.
5. Banana mixed with coconut
This is one of the most unique food in Tien Giang. Ground banana and coconut are mixed together, then served with fish sauce and raw vegetables. Unripe bananas are soaked in water until it releases all the latex before boiled. Then let it cool, mixed with coconut, adding some sugar and salt until the mixture is dense, then served into a plate. At first, I had some troubles when rolling it with rice paper and raw vegetables. But as I dipped it into fish sauce with ground chili and garlic and tried one bite, I felt a strange savor that I have never tried before.
6. Porridge with snakehead and coriander
This is the most specialty in the Southwest. Snakeheads with savory and tough meat are processed, removed bones, marinated and steamed. Rice is stewed in a long time to become porridge.
An original bowl of porridge includes cilantro, sprouts, pepper, peanuts, mushrooms, coriander and fish. Since coriander is quite bitter, so not everyone can eat it. If you are familiar with the flavor, you are totally into it. At first, the bitter savor was full in my mouth, but when I swallowed, it magically turned to sweetness. When eating porridge with snakehead, you should eat coriander to feel the true savor of the dish.
7. My Tho broken rice
This dish is often served at lunch. Since the taste is so delicious that the local are hard to get rid of, so it becomes the daily food here. The most delicious broken rice is served in Cau Doi small restaurant.
